The idea of ?? a handheld gaming PC is not new, but its execution so far has not been very mature. One manufacturer that is gpd win 3 very keen on experimenting with mini-sized gaming PCs is GPD.
This Chinese company has not been around for a long time, but its product portfolio includes many devices that all adopt a very portable design.
Most recently, they released GPD Win 3 Game Tablet, a handheld gaming PC that can run various AAA games smoothly.
When you look at the shape, it is clear that the design was inspired by the Nintendo Switch and the Alienware Concept UFO earlier. The difference is, the pair of controllers on the left and right can’t be removed.
In addition, GPD Win 3 also comes with air intake vents on the back, and air vents on the top. There’s also a USB-A port, a power button, a headphone jack and an integrated microphone.
At the bottom, there is a loudspeaker and a USB-C Thunderbolt 4.0 port. There is also a button with a customized function behind the grip of the controller, which is also supported by feedback.
The main body size is 198 x 92 x 27 mm, and the weight is 560 g. The body of WIN 3 is made of LG-DOW121H impact-resistant ABS synthetic resin with Rockwell hardness 109R.
The screen itself uses a 5.5-inch IPS panel with 720p resolution. The use of HD resolution instead of FHD is in my opinion the right decision. Instead of forcing FHD resolution but the game can’t stabilize at 60 fps.
it’s better to sacrifice a little visual quality in order to get a smooth gaming experience – I say a little because 720p will still look sharp on a screen this small, and that can be proven by the pixel density – which is at 268 PPI.
This device will be powered by an 11th generation Intel Core processor chipset 2.4GHz up to 4.2GHz or i7 2.8GHz up to 4.7GHz, along with 16GB LPDDR4 RAM and 1TB PCIe 3.0 SSD internal storage space. Both models are equipped with 16GB LPDDR4-4266 RAM and 1TB PCIe 3.0 SSD.
The GPD WIN 3 battery is claimed to have a capacity of 44 Wh, and this is estimated to be enough to play heavy games for 2-3 hours. Charging itself only takes about 1.5 hours if you use a 65 W adapter.
Games can be played on a 720p screen in handheld mode, or the device can be connected to devices with I/O connection support
The dock will offer support for external displays via HDMI 2.0b, 1Gbps Ethernet, USB-C X1, and USB-A X3.
With the Intel Iris Xe graphics processor, gamers can play the latest triple-A games at 60fps. The screen on this device is a 720p panel, so graphics-heavy games will be easier to run with the integrated graphics setup.
GPD Win 3 is also supported by an Intel Xe GPU as well as Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, Bluetooth 5.0, and support for microSD cards. This device is armed with a 65W Power Delivery charge and the battery of this device is estimated to be able to last for two to three hours when playing games with heavy graphics.
